ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival (2013)

An amazing comic of the body and its often strange choreographies. Drawings can best capture the poses of bodies and their placement in spaces – through intimate knowledge of human nature, comic artists can re-scribble the body into our perception. Since Louis XIV, attempts have been made to graphically “capture” the dance with drawings, notations and symbols.

Now French choreographer Mathilde Monnier and Belgian comic artist Francois Olislaeger are breaking new ground in a sensational project. In “What’s wrong with us?!?” no professional dancers perform, but people like you and me. Their desire for movement, their dance memories and personalities make up the realism and immediacy of this danced graphic novel.
